Most Injuries are 100% preventable

Safety managers spend a lot of time training drivers to prevent highway crashes, but did you know that most injuries happen while the vehicle is stopped? Yep, the vast majority of your company's workers' comp claims are related to preventable injuries resulting from slips, trips, falls and distractions.

The good news is, you can prevent the vast majority of these injuries with – you guessed it! – training. By training drivers in good injury prevention habits now, you can save a lot of time, money and pain (literally!) for years to come.

If you're ready to step up your injury prevention training, our printable poster 5 S.T.E.P.S. to Preventing Out-of-Vehicle Injuries is just what the doctor ordered.

Based on ITI's course on the same topic, the poster outlines 5 simple steps every employee can take to prevent out-of-vehicle injuries. Combine all the first letters, and they even spell "STEPS"! The best part, though? They won't cost you a penny. The steps are:

1. Stay in Control.

Most injuries are caused by rushing and distraction. Staying in control means staying focused and taking time to complete a task safely.

2. Take Care and Look.

An alert worker is a safe worker. Train employees to proactively look out for hazards in their work environment at all times.

3. Ensure a Good Grip.

Whether lifting a package, climbing a ladder, or exiting a vehicle, maintaining a good grip with both hands will help prevent falls and dropped cargo.

4. Plan for Success.

Simple steps like warming up before physical activity, wearing personal protective equipment and restraining loose clothing will help workers stay safe.

5. Strains Mean Pain.

If an activity causes strain on the joints or muscles, it's more likely to lead to injury.
